Launch of Polaris submarine by Queen Mother

Sep. 09, 1966 - Queen Mother Launches Polaris Submarine: Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother today launched Britain's first Polaris Submarine, H.M.S. Resolution, at Barrow in Furness. H.M.S Resolution is the first of four British Polaris submarines now being built to be launched. About 7, 000 tons, she is due to begin operational patrols in May, 1968, armed with 16 Polaris missiles with a range of 2, 500 nautical miles.
