Lea Pericoli and Gardnar Mulloy at Hurlingham Club

Jun. 06, 1962 - Dead end for him - but what a pretty beginning at Wimbledon: Wimbledon opens today and 39 nations provide a record entry. The weather is sunny, the wind gusty and Australia (who hold the men's title) have the largest entry of 27 compared with Britain (who hold the women's singles title) with 16. But as at Royal Ascot last week, Wimbledon is full of fashion on and off the courts. Here is Italy's Lea Pericoli sporting a layered tulle outfit with gold embroidery, complete with small white cape hanging from her shoulder - while American Gardnar Mulloy seems to have come to a dead end in ideas. Or has he? They were pictured at the pre-Wimbledon reception at the Hurlingham Club yesterday
