Lewisham rail disaster, SE London
Dec. 12, 1957 - Tragic Crash at Lewisham: More than forty people are feared to have lost their lives by the crash of a steam train from Cannon Street track into the rear of the 5-18 electric train from C Cross to Hayes soon after 6pm in dense fog outside St. John's Station, Lewisham. Part of the wreckage crashed into the supports of a flyover bringing parts of it down on to the crashed trains.
