Lewisham rail disaster, SE London
Dec. 04, 1957 - Tragic crash at Lewisham, London. More than forty people feared to have lost their lives in the crash of as steam train from Cannon street to Deal, into the rear of the 5-18 electric train from Charing Cross to Hayes soon after 8 pm in dense fog just outside of St. John?s Station, Lewisham. Part of the wreckage crashed into the supports of a flyover, brining sections down on to the crashed train. Keystone Photo Shows: Firemen work on the wreckage showing girders of the flyover which crashed down creating more chaos in the fog this evening. AM/Keystone
