Dec. 12, 1957 - Tragic Rush-Hour Train Crash in Lewisham more than forty dead: More than forty people are feared to have lost their lives by the crash of the 4-56 steam train from Comon Street to Deal - into the rear of the 5-18 electric train from Charing Cross to Hayes - soon after 6.p.m. just outside St. John's Station, Lewisham. Partof the wreckage crashed into supports - causing part of the fover to crash down on the smashed trains.
