Liane Sorrenson training under Sidney Bogin as female barber
1965 - Cut -Throat competition. Watch it lads your barber may be a girl. A revolution, another invasion of the male prerogative, another step forward in the emancipation of women. Barbering is an all-male job - or rather it was until Sidney Bogin of the Bogin School of Gentlemen's Hairdressing in Titchfield Street W1 had the startling idea of introducing girls into the men's hairdressing salons of Britain. Already 20 girls have been trained to minister to the well-groomed needs of the male, to style to blow wave, to razor cut, and to shave, And more girls are attending the ten guinea-a-week special course for ladies hairdressers wishing to learn gentlemen's hairdressing. Mr. Bogin, who is a hairdresser of high repute and was the first to demonstrate blow waving in this country is of the opinion that girls will brighten up the country's barber shops and will stop the customers from straying from shop to shop. And he could well be right. Close trim - tricky business, but student barber Liane Sorrenson of New Zealand is doing well under the supervision of Mr. Sidney Bogin himself.
