Mar. 04, 1981 - Ostriches From Zimbabwe: The arrival of three baby ostriches at Chessington zoo, Surrey, has posed somewhat of a problem for the bird keepers at the zoo. The young birds have been bought to be raised in the new Celebrity Bird Garden where breeding the birds is to be a priority. The only trouble is they don't know what sex they are. and dispite careful examination by several vets and bird experts, these ostriches are keeping their gander a well guarded secret. They will have to wait another six months until they shed their soft, grey-brown plumage to adopt the instantly recognizable plumage of adult ostriches. Hoping they have both sexes among the three who have come all the way from Zimbabwe.
