Liner Queen Elizabeth bought by Americans

1969 - Americans Pay 3M. For Queen Liner. Elizabeth To Be Hotel. A three-man American syndicate has bought the Cunard Liner Queen Elizabeth, for 3, 230, 000. The deals was concluded in London. She will be delivered from Southampton to Philadelphia as soon as possible after completing her last cruise on November 15 and will become the focal point of a 150-acre convention centre and hotel enterprise in the Delaware River, re-titled the Eighth Wonder of the World'. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, who gave her name to the liner, was told in advance about the sale. Under the terms of a tightly-worded contract the liner will drop its Queen prefix and be simply known as Elizabeth. Mr. John Whitworth, Cunard managing director, explained that this was out of deference to the Queen. The three American businessman said they were quite happy with that arrangement. The three American syndicate is Mr. Charles F. Williard, 58, president of one of the largest mechanical and electrical contractors in the United States, Mr. Stanton R. Miller, 41, and his brother, Mr. Robert B. Miller, 39, property dealers. Photo Shows:- The contract selling the Queen Elizabeth for 3, 230, 000 being signed by Mr. F.J.
