Little girl in coronation pageant, Meadle, Buckinghamshire
There's a lady distress. Little Jean Rogers, all dressed up for her part as a lady in waiting to the Queen, finds her way barred by a big cow as she tries to join the Pageant rehearsal in a field at Meadle, Bucks. Cattle get a preview of village's Coronation tableau: Meadle, Bucks, is holding a Coronation Carnival on 6 June and one of the tableaux to be included depicts Queen Elizabeth I with her ladies in waiting, pages and Yeomen of the Guard. All the parts are being taken by children and the ladies of the village have all cooperated in making the costumes from odd scraps of material. Playing the part of the Queen is pretty 13-year-old Ursula Moore. While crossing a field on their way to a rehearsal the children found their way barred by inquisitive cows eager to get a preview of the tableau. They soon got out of the way however when the Beefeaters arrived, somebody must have told them that Yeomen of the Guard are not called Beefeaters for nothing
