London's first legal gaming room opened, Berkeley Square
Feb. 02, 1961 - LONDON'S FIRST LEGAL GAMING ROOM OPENED. The first legal gaming room to open since the new Betting and Gaming act - is in an oak panelled back room off the restaurant at the Mayfair Club in Berkeley Square. There for four nights a week chemin de fer is played for reasonably high stakes. The club is run by Leslie Romain. His regulars now number about 100 players who are all club members or friends.
