Aug. 08, 1959 - British Official photo - crown copyright reserved: The long Gallery at chequers where president Eisenhower and Mr. Macmillan will confer: When President Eisenhower goes to Chequers for his talks with the Prime Minister they will confer in the famous Long Gallery. This is one of the earliest rooms in the house. on the walls are portraits of former owners of Chequers and there are also many relics of Oliver Cromwell in the room, The stained glass in the bay window at the end of the Gallery was inserted in 1910 by Lord and Lady Lee, who presented chequers to the nation in 1917 as a country residence for the prime Ministers of the day. The Glass forms an Heraldic record of the principal owners of chequers from the middle of the 12th up to the 20th century.
