Lord and Lady Weymouth with encrusted mural, Longleat

Dec. 16 Aristocratic Art: Lord Weymouth's Murals at Longleat: They may shock some, particularly those in the bedroom which are barred to under eighteens. They certainly will startle, and the expected thousands of visitors who will view them in Longleat's stately rooms and corridors will have much to digest, whatever their taste. At last the monumental work of the son and heir to the Marquess of Bath in the stately home he will inherit, has been unveiled at a private showing attended by his film star wife Anna Gael and his father, who claimed some innocence and ignorance of this exhibition of his son's somewhat advanced style. The murals are a form of sculpture-painting encrusted on the walls, some of which have taken 20 years to complete. The new Gallery is entitled The Ages of History, the Drawing Room murals are called the history of Man; and the bedroom is a glorying of Kama Sutra. The entire work is, according to the scion of an ancient British noble family, an attempt to express his own philosophy and outlook of and on life. Lord and Lady Weymouth beneath one of the encrusted murals in the Sitting Room at Longleat. Known as the Long Gallery, this is one of a series of The Age of History, from Stone Age to contemporary clockwork art and automation
