Lord Mayor of London in Pearly King's hat for Jubilee

Jan. 01, 1977 - The Pearly Appeal Bus Launched By The Lord Mayor Mrs. Callaghan The Prime Minister's Wife: The Cockney Salute For Jubilee was launched this morning when a 25 year old London double Decker bus, transformed into a traveling picture gallery of real life Pearly King, Queens and Children painted in oils on a silver background, and was named the Pearly Appeal Bus by the Lord Mayor of London, Commander Sir Robin Gillatt, The Prime Minister's wife Mrs. Audrey Callaghan launched the bus by cracking a bottle of champagne over the back wheel. During this Jubilee year the bus will carry the group of Pearlys to jubilee events and it will be seen as the London grass roots contribution to the jubilee spirit.
