Lord Mountbatten drives miniature train, Newby Hall
1971 - Former First Sea Lord Becomes A Train Driver: Wearing a peaking cap and goggles Earl Mountbatten of Burma realised a childhood ambition to be an engine driver. The former First Sea Lord found himself back at the helm yesterday when he opened a new miniature railway in the grounds of Newby Hall, one of Yorkshire's stately homes. The Earl sat in the driver's seat of the engine a scaled down replica of the Royal Scot when he took a trip on the miniature railway pulling a carriage of excited children.
