Lord Mountbatten leaves Royal Navy after 46 years
Apr. 24, 1959 - Admiral of the fleet leaves the navy after forty six years service: Admiral of the Fleet Earl Mountbatten left the navy yesterday after 46 years service, during whihc he rose from a 13 year old cadet to First Sea Lord. Like any man leaving a job, Lord Mountbatten and his wife threw a farewell party for his shipmates in the stately rooms of Lancaster House last night.
