Lord Southampton about to give up his title, London

Mar. 03, 1964 - Lord Southampton Becomes Mr. Charles Fitzroy: Lord Southampton, whose title dates back 164 years, and who is descendent of King Charles I, today went to the House of Lords to hand in the instrument of Disclaimer to his title. He is giving up his title because he is fed up with all the robbery attached to the nobility, Lord Southampton is the first year peer to relinquish his title on grounds other than political. He has stated that since he inherited the title in 1958 he has been the prey of Spongers and Hangers-on who wanted to exploit him, , and now he will feel a free man.
