Luchino Visconti and Romy Schneider in press conference
Feb. 02, 1972 - A Film about the Bavarian fairytale King Ludwig II, is being made on Ross Island on the Lake of Starnberg, Upper Bavaria, by Luchino Visconti. The colour film will show the life of Ludwig II (1845-1886) from the evening before his coronation (1846) till his mysterious death in the Lake of Starnberg. Visconti doesn't make claim to historical accuracy. Here the director of Ludwig II explains the intention of his film to Romy Schneider who stars as Sissi, Empress Elizabeth of Austria, whom Ludwig honoured very much, during a press conference
