Luis Walter Alvarez, Nobel prizewinning physicist

Oct 20, 1968; Stockholm, Sweden; Dr. LUIS ALVAREZ, professor of physics and group leader in the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory, University of California, Berkley. Dr. Alvarez is the discoverer of tritium, helium-3 and co-discoverer of numerous nuclear particles. In World War II he developed a ground controlled approach radar. He developed the first proton linear accelerator in the post-war period, the first liquid hydrogen bubble chamber and the data handling equipment used with that equipment. In 1968 won the Nobel Prize for Physics
