Lulu and Maurice Gibb, trimming beard

Feb. 28 Maurice Gibb Wins A Stage Role - But Loses His Beard: It's one thing getting the chance to star in a new musical, but for 20-years old Maurice Gibb, husband of pop star Lulu - it means a drastic haircut and his beard has got to go. So Maurice decided that if anyone was going to shave off his beard - a painful operation at the best of times - it would be his wife. Lulu is as much attached to my beard as I am, so it is a loss for both of us, says Maurice. I didn't want to go to the barber's shop, so I asked Lu to volunteer for the job. Then, as soon as I can, I will re-grow it'. Maurice, already internationally famous as founder-member of the Bee Gees, is making his stage debut as an actor in Sing a Rude Song, which opens at the Greenwich Theatre on 17 February 1970. It is a musical biography of music hall star Marie Lloyd, with Barbara Windsor playing Miss Lloyd. The show, which will transfer to the West End after a month at Greenwich, is a Greenwich Theatre production in association with Robert Stigwood (Maurice's manager) and Bob Swash.
