Nov. 11, 1957 - Lloyds New Building To Be Opened By The Queen Mother Underwriting Room Measures 340 ft. By 120 ft.: Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother is to perform the ceremony if opening the new building for Lloyds of London - in Lime Street, on Thursday 14th November. The building occupied a rectangular site extended between Lime Street and Billter Street. The main centre of the building is the Underwriting Room - which measures 340 ft. by 120 ft. providing about 44, 240 sq. ft. of underwriting space - with an additional 10, 250 sq. ft. available is required. The room gallery is supported by pillara leaving an open central area roofed with glass. Facing throughout the room are in marble and it has rubber floors. The famous Lutine Bell has been installed on the rostrum - in the Underwriting Room.
