Machine for ordering drinks in a pub, near Bolton, Lancs
Oct. 10, 1963 - Automation comes to the village pub: Because elections expert Dick Millington couldn't catch a waiter's eye when he wanted a drink he set to work and devised a system which has been installed in his local, the 184 year old Flag Inn at Bromley Cross near Bolton, Lancs. Each table has a dial and a Drinks Directory'. If they want a pint of bitter they dial 06, or a rum and blackcurrant they dial 39, the telephone order goes to a central control exchange behind the bar, and the drinks are produced by a waiter. Photo shows the locals trying out the new system
