Dec. 12, 1963 - Kenya Greets Independence: There were great scenes of jubilation in Nairobi's UHURU (Freedom) Stadium when Kenya's new flag was broken to proclaim her independence after 68 years of British rule. The Duke of Edinburgh represented the Queen at the ceremony which was witnessed by a crowd of 250, 000. Photo shows The Governor, Mr. Malcolm Macdonald wears Coluba skins that were presented to him by Kenya's chiefs. In the background (left) can be seen the Commonwealth Relations Secretary Mr. Duncan Sandys
