Jun. 06, 1970 - Mrs. Mamie Eisenhower was among the distinguished guests who attended the ceremony in which Colonel Anna M.V. Hays, Director of the Army Nurse Corps, left and Colonel Elizabeth P. Hosington, Director of the Women's Army Corps, right, were promoted to the rank of Brigadier General. This is the first time that women have held the rank of General Officer in the U.S. Armed Forces
