Man who damaged Rubens painting, Munich
Feb. 02, 1959 - Acid-assailant who destroyed painting by Rubens was caught by the police: Walter Menzl (52) of Constance who destroyed on Feb.26th, 1959 in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich the painting The Condemned tumbling into Hell by Peter Paul Rubens with an acid liquid, was on Feb.27th, 1959 int the office of a solicitor. At the hearing at the Munich police residency he confessed that he was guilty. Reason: he wanted to draw everybody attention on him and his idea is to create a future without war.
