Manneken Pis Fountain, Brussels
Oct. 02, 1973 - The Nude Boy Triumphs in Brussels Brussels most famous symbol, the Manneken-Pis fountain, has just been classified an ancient Monument. The designation is deserved since the little Bronze statue of a naked boy has been on view in Rue De L Etuve off the main shopping area in Brussels. The Ministers of culture for french language and Flemish-speaking Belgians had presented King Baudouin with a petition inviting him to extend the states official protection to the state. Such agreement about the statue's worth is rare among Belgians. In 1920 it was condemned by a league against public immorality. In the last of several thefts of the statue, it was removed by Flemish demonstrators and spent nine months on the bottom of a Brussels canal.Photo shows ; The famous statue the Manneken -Pis in Brussels
