Mar. 27 The Alamein Oilfield was inaugurated by Dr. Aziz Sedky, Minister of Industry and Petroleum, representing President Gamal Abdel Nasser. he inspected the field and its installations including gas and water separation units of 30, 000 barrels daily capacity, 30, 000 barrels storage tanks and 16-inch pipe lines extending 40 kilometres north to the Hamra Oil bunkering Mediterranean terminal worth three 268, 000 barrel storage tanks. The main importance of this field is that it was the first find in the western desert since the start of petroleum prospecting in Egypt in 1908 and hence it proved the existence of huge petroleum lake underground in North Africa. More important still is its superior quality which is 31 degree density. The Minister also stated that UAR petroleum production would soon reach more than one quarter of million barrels daily.
