March 28, 1985 - Nice, France - MARC CHAGALL (July 6, 1887 - March 28, 1985) was a French painter of Russian-Jewish origin who was born in Belarus, then part of the Russian Empire. Among the celebrated painters of the 20th century, and an early modernist, he was associated with several major artistic styles and created works in virtually every artistic medium, including painting, book illustrations, stained glass, stage sets, ceramics, tapestries and fine art prints.
