Sep. 18, 1977 - Mario Cuomo lost the Democratic Party nomination for Mayor for New York at the Mayoral Runoff 77 but stays in the race for the November elections as Liberal Party candidate. Former New York Governor MARIO CUOMO (June 15, 1932 - January 1, 2015) died today at 82. Mario Cuomo had been hospitalised recently to treat a heart condition. He passed away at home, shortly before 5 pm ET. The Democrat was governor for three terms, from 1983 to 1995. He was married to his wife, Matilda, for more than six decades. They had five children, including current New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who was sworn in for his second term today
