Martin St James, hypnotist, mind reader and mystic, arrived in London yesterday. He will be here for five weeks, and during that time anything could happen. St. James is particularly well-known in America for the speed with which he can hypnotise unsuspecting victims. He once put a traffic cop in a trance while asking for directions and then left him diverting traffic the wrong way round a busy square. Yesterday, St. James gave a demonstration of his powers. He put a few people under, brought them out and then offered a bit of self-hypnosis. He put himself into a trance, went stiff, and was then lifted so that he lay across two chairs. One chair supported his neck, the other his heels. three girls then sat on him. He didn't sag at all.
