Mar. 03, 1977 - 50th Birthday of Writer Martin Walser: On March 24, 1977 the writer Martin Walser celebrates his 50th birthday. He is now living in Uberlingen at Lake Constance. He was born in Wasserburg am Bodensee and attended the Grammar School in Lindau (Lake Constance) from 1938 to 1943. Then he passed the labour service and the army for two years. In 1946 final examination, till 1948 studies at the Theological and Philosophical High School in Regensburg, 1948-1951 studies of literature, history and philosophy at the University Tuebingen. 1951 thesis on Franz Kafka. 1949-1957 co-worker at the South German Radio and TV Broadcasting Service (responsible for politics and contemporary history). Martin Walser, is one of those writers who after the War made the German literature gain appreciation both at home and abroad. He was awarded many times: prize of the Group 47 (for Temlon's End'). the Hermann-Hesse -Prize, the Schiller-Memorial-Promoting-Prize, and the Lake-Constance-Literature-Prize'. In his works he criticised West German society. Here are some of his prose works: An Aeroplane above the house and other stories, Marriages in Philippsburg, Stories of Lies, the trilogy Half-Time - The Unicorn - The Fall, From the vocabulary of our fights'. Plays: Oak and Angora Mr. Krott more than life-sized, The Black Swan, The Side-Trip, The Battle in the Room and his latest novel Beyond Love
