Mar. 03, 1977 - 20 years ago Director Max Ophuls died: On March 26, 1977 there is the 20th anniversary of the director's Max Ophuls death. The Magician of French Film, whose real name was Maximilian Oppenheimer, was born on May 6, 1902, in Saarbrucken. He first gained himself a name as a theatre director, then, in 1932, he was successful in directing the ingenious opera-film The bride having been sold and the film The Fliration after Arthur Schnitzler. After his emigration from Germany in 1933 he worked in France, the Netherlands, Italy and the USA.; after the War he returned to Europe and, between 1950 and 1955, directed those films he became famous for, including Remunerated Secrecy for Love-Letters, The Round Dance, Pleasure, Madame de and Lola Montez
