Third Memorial Place in Dachau inaugurated

May 05, 1967 - TheThird Memorial Place in Dachau Was Inagurated: On the ground of the former concentration camp Dachau was inaugurated on Sunday (May 7th) a Jewish memorial place as third building following the Catholic Mortal-Fear-Christ Chapel and the Evangelical Reconciliation Church. Rabbi D Spiro lit the Eternal light and burned a document. The president of the district union of the Israeli religious communities in Bavaria, Heinz Meire, pointed out that these three memorial places symbolise the inflexible resoluteness of all people of good will to be responsible for the ideals of humanity and the peace of God on the earth. Beside him spoke the ambassador of the state of Israel in the Republic of Germany, Asher Ben Nathan, and the Bavarian Minister Dr. Hundhammer. The memorial place was designed by the Frankfurt architect Hermann Guttmann. The building has a parabolic shape and is nine meters long. The outer and inner walls form a uniform carved-stone-masonry from crematorium to the former roll-call-place. In memory of the more than 30, 000 prisoners who were killed in Dachau an urn with the ashes of the unknown prisoner was interred. Photo Shows: Former prisoners on the silent march
