May 19, 1953 - Beating the bounds of the Savoy Liberty. From the East Stern of Waterloo Bridge. The traditional besting the bounds of the Savoy Liberty took place this morning. The liberty extends from Shell Mex house to Temple Bar, and from the Themas to approximately the north side of the strand. After a short service at the Queen's chapel of the Savoy - the Journeymen best the bounds - led by the beadle on cocked hat end red coat and carrying the silver headed staff made in 1702.
