Apr. 16, 1956 - Karl Marx statue defaced-and cleaned: The 12ft. high Karl Marx memorial in Highgate Cemetery which was daubed with white paint during the night-has been cleaned. The incident is believed to be in protest of the forthcoming visit to London of the Soviet Leaders. Photo shows Two officials look at the statue after it had been cleaned today
