May 05, 1956 - Unveiling of a Bronze Monument to Pinocchio': In the present of the President of the Republic, Signor Gronchi, a bronze monument to Pinocchio, the famous puppet was unveiled at Collodi near Pescia (Tuscany). Carlo Lorenzini the author of the Pinocchio novel spent his early life in Collodi. Thousands of Italian children raised the money for the monument.
