Sep. 09, 1956 - The Old VIC Foundation Stone Unveiled, Ceremony at Famous Theater: Lord Esher this evening performed the ceremony of Unveiling the Old VIC Foundation stone.. The Stone was originally laid on Sept. 14th. 1816 by Prince Leopold of Saxe Coburg and his wife Princess of Wales. The stone came from the Old Palace of Savoy and dates back to 1245. The historic stone was defaced during the war- and has just been restored by the Vic- Wells Association.
