Apr. 18 Deepfreeze personnel spend dark cold winter in Antarctica ; The long winter night - lasting from April until August - is little comfort to the United state's Navy's Deefreeze Operation personnel who live at McMurdo sound Naval air Facility on the Continent of Antarctica. As part of the Navy's supporting role for the U.S. Antarctic research Programme - 132 Navy men and three civilians spent the Antarctic winter at McMurdo this year - who with others are preparing for the Summer assiult on Antar - Operation Deepfreeze Sixty.
