Oct. 10, 1959 - Sir Walter Raleigh Statue Unvelled. Ceremony Performed By U.S. Ambasaddor: Mr. John Hay Whitney the Unhited States Ambassador to London this morning unveiled the new Sir Walter Raleich Statue on the lawn in front of the new Air Ministry buildingt in Whitehall. The statue was sculptored by William McMillian R.A. and paid for by a number of City bodies, the Ends of the Earth Club and the English Speaking Union-and is to mark the 350th, anniversary of the first permanent British Colony at Jamestown, Virginia.
