Jun. 06, 1962 - New Home for Greek marbles: The gallery presented to the British museum by the late lord Duveen of Millbank, containing the soulptures of the Parthenon (the Elgin Marbles) is being officially opened this afternoon by the Archbishop of Ganterbury. The Elgin Marbles have been cared for by the British Museum since 1816, 4, 00 having been spent on acquiring and transporting them to England. The Duveen gallery was completed in 1938 at a cost 00, 000, seriously damaged by combing in 1940 and restored last year.
