Sep. 09, 1960 - Huge Japanese Buddha Cracks.. Repairs To A National Treasure - Near Tokyo. The great Daibutsu of Kamakura, near Tokyo - cat in 1252 - and which is considered to be one of the great national treasures of Japan - has developed a number of alarming cracks. Five expert engineers are at work inside the great construction filling the cracks with a special compound in order to prolong its existence. The huge Daibutsu represents the Lord of Boundless Light.
