Sep. 09, 1965 - Fifty years After Special Photographic Exhibition: The Imperial War museum is presenting a Special Photographic Exhibition to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the events of the year 1915. The exhibition forms the second phase of the Fifty Years After series inagurated by Lietenant-General Sir Edmond Schreiber in 1964. It illustrates the first full year of the First World War, with special reference to british and Commonwealth operations on the Western Front and on the Gallipoli peninsula. Although particular emphasis is placed on the campaigns on land in 1915, events at sea and in the air are also recorded. Similarly while the exhibition is mainly concerned with the activities of British and Commonwealth soldiers, sailors and airmen, the armed forces of other than the Western Front and gallipoli are depicted. The years 1914-1918 are also illustrated, though on a lessor scale, to remind the visitors of the exhibition which inaugurated the series and to indicate the scope of subsequent exhibitions. The main feature of the Special Exhibition consists of a series of pairs of photographs. In each case, they first of the pair is a picture from the Museum's photographic library taken during the First World War, whilst the second photographs shows precisely the same view as it appears today-fifty years later.
