Feb. 02, 1968 - Parthenon columns in danger of Collapse.: Partly because of rusting steel supports, the marble columns of the Parthenon in Athens, are in danger of collapse. Before the First World War, whilst cruising in the Admiralty yacht Enchantress, Sir Winston Churchill was shocked to see the columns lying on the ground as they had been for years. He even considered sending for a party of bluejackets who, he thought, would soon have them upright. The Greek Government, not many years later, took the same view as Sir Winston.
