May 24, 1971 - The Eruption ofTNA.: The eruption of Mount Etna shows no sign of abating. One major river of lava continued to roll down the southeast side of Etna towards Sant'Alfio, where for days townspeople have paraded images and relice of their patron. Saint Alphius in the hop of halting the approaching lava which overwhelemed the creek Cubania on the road from Zalferana and to Linguaglossa. The lava swept over farmhouses and visyards as nobbing inhabitants fled their homes. Photo shows Crowds pictured as they watched the approaching stream of lave from Mount Etna
