Sep. 18, 1976 - Ceremonial Unveiling Of The Katyn Memorial In London At Which The Government Refused To Be Represented: Thousands of Poles from Britain and abroad were present today at the ceremonial unveiling of the Katyn Memorial, at Kensington Cemetery, Gunnersbury, Hounslow. London. The memorial commemorates the massacre of 14, 471 Polish officers and men by the Russians in the Katyn Forest in 1940. The massacre has always been denied by the Russians who blame the Nazis. The British Government was nor represented at the ceremony, and British serving officers were forbidden to attend the ceremony in uniform.
