1979 - Statue of William Booth Unveiled To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of William Booth, Founder of the Salvation Army. It was unveiled by the present world leader of the Army, General Arnold Brown. It is sited at the junction of the Whitechapel and Mile End Roads where Booth started his Christian Mission in 1865.
