1953 - The Mermaid Theatre at the Royal Exchange Nears Completion. The Mermaid Theatre, founded by Bernard Miles and his wife Josephine Wilson, nears completion at the famous Royal Exchange. Progress on the construction was inspected this morning by Bernard Miles, the Lord Mayor of London Sir Rupert De La Bere and members of the cast who will appear in the theatre.
