Michael Foot is the new Labour Party Leader: A late swing of support among Labour MPs last night gave the party leadership to Michael Foot, 67, the veteran Left Winger, campaigner for nuclear disarmament and a close ally of trade union leaders. Mr. Foot, deputy leader since April, 1976, under Jim Callaghan, defeated Mr Denis Healey, shadow Chancellor by a majority of 10, in a second ballot of the Parliamentary Labour Party.
