Mar. 03, 1968 - Mr. George brown resigns-Mr Michael Stewart takes over as foreign secretary : Mr George Brown, who has been Britain's foreign secretary for the last 19 months, resigned late last night. Mr Brown's resignation followed a furious row in which he complained about not being consulted on government moves in the gold crisis. he is replaced secretary of state and no 3 in the cabinet -and was foreign secretary before Mr. brown took over.
