Feb. 02, 1955 - Tallest recruit joins the army.: Believed to be the tallest recruit ever to join the British Army arrived at the Caterham Depot of the Grenadire Guards this afternoon. he is 6ft. 10 1/2 in. Robert Person who has just signed on for a 21 year streton. Owing to his size there was some difficulty in supplying him with a bed and kit. He brought his own boots with him - size 14. Photo shows R.S.M. Nash has to hold an addition to the measuring rule - which measures 6ft. 6ins. - to check Robert Parson's height on his arrival at the depot this afternoon
