Lyman, USMC, Was In Command Of The 1800-Man Reinforced Battalion Comprising The Marine Landing Force. The Landing In Saros Gulf Was Supported By A Naval Gunfire Support Group Under The Command Of Rear Admiral Henry Crommelin Aboard The Battleship USS Wisconsin And By The Attack Carrier Striking Force Of The Sixth Fleet Commanded By Rear Admiral Mure E. Arnold, In The Carrier USS Forrestal. Thirty-Three Ships Of The Sixth Fleet Took Part In The Exercise. The Command Ships Of The Amphibious Squadron Was USS Mt. Mckinley. In Addition To The Forrestal And Wisconnin Other Major U. S. Units Supporting The Landing Were The Carrier USS Lake Champlain And The Heavy Cruisers USS Salem And Des Moines, Plus 14 Destroyers. Vice Admiral Charles R. Brown, Commander Of The Sixth Fleet, Was The Coordinate Of The Exercise In His NATO Role As Commander Naval Striking And Support Forces South
